Do you know the connection between egg health and your fertility? As a women your eggs are an incredibly important pieces of your fertility puzzle.

Cool fact: As a female we are born with all of our eggs, which means your current egg health could affect your GRANDCHILDREN. You could actually say that you were half developed by your grandmother. Crazy right?!

Your eggs make up half of your future tiny human. It is extremely important that you give your little eggs all the nutrients they need to give your baby the best chance of life and long term health.  Often miscarriages happen due to poor egg (or sperm) health. Ensuring that we give these little guys support can be really helpful in this process.

Somethings that can have a negative impact on your egg health include:

  • Diet – this is a BIG ONE
  • PCOS, Endometeriosis, pre-mature aging
  • Inflammation in the body
  • High and/or chronic stress
  • Poor sleep quality
  • Poor lifestyle factors (exercise, smoking, etc)

Thankfully the quality of your eggs can be drastically improved with some adjustments.

A) Improve diet and give your body the nutrition it needs to to function optimally.  This includes:

  1. Eating clean, whole foods that aren’t filled with toxins and are nutrient dense. (ie Fruits and vegetables)
  2. Ensuring you are receiving good quality fats and protein for hormone balance and building DNA
  3. Eliminating processed sugars, excessive alcohol and caffeine, as well as foods that trigger an inflammatory response in your body

B) Learning to manage your stress. Although this one can be super challenging it’s important to remember we aren’t going to completely get rid of stress, it is a somewhat normal part of our day to day life. However excess and chronic stress is not. Learning techniques to help calm us down in these situations and keep us grounded can be essential to life.

  1. Yoga or calming exercise
  2. Meditation
  3. Deep breathing
  4. Therapy (I recommend this to all of my clients struggling with fertility)

C) Supplements to top up where our diet is lacking. It is VERY difficult for us to get all the nutrients we need and at the proper levels from food sources alone.  There is no one size fits all approach for supplements but in most cases a good quality prenatal vitamin, fish oils and vitamin D are helpful.

D) Acupuncture!  Lots of studies have been done to show the benefits of this on fertility.  Acupuncture will help increase blood flow to the abdominal cavity which is important for moving nutrients in (and taking toxins out!) It can also support stress management, liver toxicity and hormonal imbalances.
